Your fascinating journey will start from Mumbai and then you will travel to the historic Ajanta Caves that are designated as a UNESCO World heritage Site. Day 1: Start your journey from Mumbai
The guests will assemble by 1430 hours at Hotel Taj Mahal Palace & Towers where they will be welcomed in traditional Indian style. All the formalities related to registration and check in for Maharaja Express luxury train will be completed.
The Maharaja Express departs at 1640 hours from Mumbai to start Heritage of India journey. All the guests will be served dinner on board and you can enjoy the comforts and luxury offered by Maharaja Express during your overnight stay.
Day 2: Ajanta Caves
The Maharaja Express reaches Aurangabad located near Ajanta Caves. You will be served a lavish breakfast and then leave for Ajanta Caves.
The Ajanta Caves are a collection of 30 caves that were built between 200 BC and 650 AD. These famous caves are located at a distance of 104 km from Aurangabad. All these caves are considered sacred by people following Buddhist religion. These caves depict various scenes and important events from the life of Gautama Buddha. Ajanta Caves were discovered by a British historian John Smith in the year 1819. They are a great fusion of art, sculpture and paintings and one of the finest examples of classical Indian architecture. Ajanta Caves have been designated a UNSECO World Heritage Site due to their cultural and architectural significance.
Then you will return and board Maharaja Express and relax onboard. All the meals will be served onboard and the train will resume its onward journey.
Day 3: Udaipur
You will reach the magnificent Mewar region in the morning and can admire the amazing view of the landscape that is full of Aravali Mountains.
Udaipur is famous for its beauty and also known as Venice of the East due to this reason. The large number of white marble palaces, beautiful lakes, old temples and rugged beauty will make you feel happy and excited. It attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world and the old palaces, temples, ghats and havelis add a unique charm to this place. You will first visit City Palace which is one of the most beautiful palaces that are found in Rajasthan. The architecture and grandness of this place is a treat for the eyes and it reveals the finest example of Mewar architecture. This place is one of the most beautiful destinations on your entire Heritage of India journey and a memorable place to visit.
The Crystal Gallery will be the next stop and it holds one of the largest collections of Osler cut glass in the whole world. The sheer numbers of objects that are on display at this place are mind boggling. This collection was started during the reign of Maharana Sajjan Singh in the year 1878 and has been growing ever since.
The large number of crystal items that are displayed here includes crockery, sofa set, candle stands, dining table, washing bowl, table, decanter and perfume bottles as well as beds. The most prized attraction is a carpet that is made with precious jewels and is a masterpiece. Then you will return to Maharaja Express and start the journey to Jodhpur. You will be served a lavish dinner onboard.
Day 4: Jodhpur
Maharaja Express will reach Jodhpur, the old capital of Marwar region in the morning. The train will be passing some breathtaking sites and these will keep you hooked. The landscape will change when you reach Jodhpur.
You can enjoy the breakfast onboard the train OR go for a village safari and visit a Bishnoi village. This community is the widely believed to be the oldest environmental conservationists in the entire world. You can also go and enjoy luxury spa at a five star hotel. Then you will be served lunch onboard Maharaja Express.
Post lunch you can explore Jodhpur and its varied attractions like forts, palaces and old temples and all these make it one of the finest places to visit in Rajasthan. Jodhpur has a large number of architectural delights that attract a large number of tourists.
The ancient Old Clock Tower market is an ideal place to visit to witness the local flavors of Jodhpur. Mehrangarh Fort will be your next stop and it is one of the most beautiful heritage structures that have stood the test of time. The architecture of this place has made it one of the most renowned places and the museum here is also something that must not be missed. The evening is also a grand affair with cultural and musical extravaganza and you can enjoy a lavish cocktail dinner at the regal Hanwant Mahal.
They you will return and board the Maharaja Express and continue your onward journey.
Day 5: Bikaner
The Maharaja Express will then reach Bikaner and you will be served breakfast onboard the train. You can enjoy the charming scenery that is one of the best things about your journey.
Bikaner has always been an important centre for trade and caravans passing through Rajasthan. The place is also popularly known as Camel Country and you can see a large number of camels here. Most of the old buildings like forts, palaces and temples here have been constructed using red and yellow sandstone and are a true reflection of its historic and diverse cultural past.
You can either relax on the train OR go for any of the optional tours ranging from a visit to the Lalgarh Palace Museum that is full of old objects belonging to the Royal family of Bikaner OR go to the Karni Mata Temple in Deshnok that is also popularly known as Rat Temple. Another option is to go and visit the Camel Breeding Farm that normally opens at 1200 hours.
The lunch will be served onboard the train and then you will be taken to the enchanting Junagarh Fort one of the finest places to visit on this trip. It was built during the reign of Raja Rai Singh in 1593 AD. The major attractions inside this fort include Phool Mahal (Flower Palace), Badal Mahal, Anup Mahal, Diwan-i-Khas and Hawa Mahal.
Then you get a chance to be a part of camel-cart procession and this promises a lot of fun and excitement. It will be followed by sundowner cocktails, folk performances and a barbecue dinner on the sand dunes. This is easily one of the best experiences and will certainly become a memorable and highly enjoyable activity.
After the dinner, you will be coming back to board the Maharaja Express and resume your onward journey to Jaipur.
Day 6: Jaipur
Your train will reach Jaipur next morning and it is popularly known as the Pink City. The city was built by Raja Jai Singh during the 18th century and it is one of the most well planned and beautiful cities in the world. It has always been renowned for its glorious palaces, forts and temples that continue to fascinate visitors from all over the world.
The visit will start in an amazing manner with an Exhibition Elephant Polo Match and a Royal Welcome at the Jai Mahal Palace hotel. You can also play in this polo match if you are interested in it. You will also be welcomed by a traditional royal military band along with ceremonial beating of Nagadas. The polo match is followed by a Champagne lunch at the Jai Mahal Palace hotel.
After lunch you will be going to Amber Fort and it is located near Jaipur in hills and it is an eclectic mix of Indian and Mughal architecture. This fort was started during the reign of Raja Man Singh I in the year 1592 and finished during Mirja Raja Jai Singh’s rule. The beautiful fort was made using red sandstone and white marble and is one of the finest examples of classical Indian architecture.
Then you can get a chance to shop for antique jewellery, ethnic textiles and blue pottery that has made Jaipur quite famous all over the globe. The overnight stay will be onboard the Maharaja Express and you will resume your onward journey after boarding the train.
Day 7: Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore) – Fatehpur Sikri
Your train will reach Sawai Madopur next morning and you will go for a safari to the Ranthambore National Park. This park used to be the private hunting ground of kings and princes and made a National Park in the year 1973. This place is well known for tigers and you can also see sambar, chital, nilgai, wild boar, sloth bear, jackal, leopard and various other animals. Going to a safari is a unique experience and cannot be compared with anything else in the world.
The breakfast will be served at Vivanta by Taj, Sawai Madhopur and then you will return and board the Maharaja Express. Your journey will resume and it will take you to the legendary Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri. The journey will take some time and you can enjoy a lavish lunch onboard the Maharaja Express.
Fatehpur Sikri was the first planned city during the rule of Mughal Emperor Akbar and he also moved his capital here from Agra. It was built in a planned and efficient manner and contains famous structures like Buland-Darwazah and tomb of Sheikh Salim Chishti, Jami Masjid, Shahi Bazaar, the Panch Mahal, Diwan-i-Khass and Diwan-i-Am. A lot of emphasis was placed on ensuring security besides water storage and drainage and the credit for this goes to Akbar.
This place has always fascinated people from all over the world and is a delight to visit and you will be mesmerized by its beauty and grandness. Fatehpur Sikri has been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to this reason.
You will return to the Maharaja Express after your visit to this historic destination and the dinner will be served onboard the train.
Day 8: Agra – Delhi
The last day of the journey promises a lot of excitement as the Maharaja Express will reach Agra. The city is renowned globally due to Taj Mahal and has also served as the capital of India during the Mughal rule. Agra is also a famous centre for arts and handicrafts and products made with marble and intricate stone inlay work. Agra reached its zenith during the Mughal rule and has always been one of the leading art and culture destinations.
You will visit the Taj Mahal after you reach Agra and the experience of watching this beautiful monument dedicated to Love cannot be expressed in words. Taj Mahal was built during the reign of Shah Jahan as a tribute to his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal and it took more than 20 years to build it. It is the finest examples of Indian and Persian architecture and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its cultural and architectural significance.
The guests will be served Champagne breakfast while sitting at Taj Khema where they can gaze at the mesmerizing Taj Mahal while enjoying their meal. After the meal guests will go back to the Maharaja Express and resume their journey.
The train will start the last leg of its journey to Delhi and the lunch will be last meal served onboard the Maharaja Express. The train will reach Safdarjung Railway Station in New Delhi by around 1530 hours and your journey will end here.
